More about Brian

Brian has been working in planning for over 30 years. He has qualifications in geography, urban and regional planning, urban design and community engagement.

Prior to establishing his own consultancy business his career has spanned academic research and teaching; private consultancy running a business unit in the worlds largest firm of property advisers; and in the public sector managing some of Perth’s most complex multi-million dollar development projects, and the State's most important strategic plan – Network City, a Community Plan for the Perth Metropolitan Area and Peel.

Brian trained originally in the UK beginning with a Geography degree in London, subsequently obtaining his MSc in Urban and Regional Planning at Reading University. He then worked as a research fellow on planning projects and added to his qualifications with an MA in Urban Design from Oxford Brookes University. He subsequently worked for Jones Lang Wootton (now JLL) in planning, urban design and property consultancy for 10 years in their London office, before spending 3 years heading up JLW’s regional planning and development consultancy based in the Birmingham office.

Since coming to Perth in 1997 he worked in a variety of roles over 8 years at the Department for Planning and Infrastructure, with responsibility at manager/director level for development projects, state strategic planning, sustainability, Perth/Peel metropolitan planning, urban innovation, and revitalisation and urban design. Brian established his own consultancy business based in Fremantle in 2004.
