The newspapers are full every day of examples of “simple” planning and development proposals that backfire disastrously because they are just not popular with the community. Sometimes it is well justified because they are just insensitive proposals for their context. Many others have just been handled inaeptly. People can tell when you are going through the motions rather than serious about involving the community. There are many facilitators, but very few in Perth that have a detailed knowledge of planning issues and the planning process, and are skilled at facilitating community processes.
