Network City Community Planning Strategy:

As Director of Future Perth/Greater Perth Brian was responsible for the reshaping of the metropolitan strategy for the incoming Labour Government that became the Network City Strategic Plan for Perth. He developed the concept of a sustainable urban growth management for the metropolitan region, and a strategy for involving the community in a Dialogue on the future of Perth and Peel.

Network City Policy:

Brian has been engaged by the DPI as consultant to advise on policy development on several aspects of the Metropolitan Plan including partnerships, target setting, structure planning, and forecasting. Brian was responsible in particular for writing the section of the Network City Plan on Liveability and Revitalisation, and contributed to the completion of the Plan. He has been retained by the DPI to prepare comments on responses received on this section of the Plan. He has also been retained to advise on activity centre policy.

Growth Management in the Peel Region:

Brian worked as consultant to the Department for Planning and Infrastructure as Sector Leader for the Strategic Planning of the fastest growing region in the State, the Peel Region. He was responsible for the interpretation of the Network City Plan particularly in respect to development pressures in and around Mandurah. Brian developed strategies for the station precincts in central Mandurah, for activity centres and corridors and for the growth areas in the Shire of Murray.

Geraldton Southern Districts Structure Plan:

Brian has been engaged by the DPI in Geraldton to review and scope the district planning issues for progressing a structure plan for southern Geraldton. This area is under major pressure for new urban development, but also contains the major industrial area in Geraldton and the airport. Brian undertook a workshop with key stakeholders to highlight district structure planning issues in the Geraldton Southern Districts, and subsequently prepared Structure Plans for the Narngulu Industrial Area and surrounding buffer zones.
