Transit Oriented Development
Marylebone Station, London:Brian prepared an urban design assessment, and coordinated a feasibility study identifying and evaluating options for the selective adaptation and development of a heritage listed historic railway terminus in central London. The resulting advice informed investment decisions on the property. British Airports Authority:Whilst at JLW in the UK Brian assembled and led a team of consultants that undertook a planning and development appraisal of the potential of all surplus land at all major UK airports to determine the value of surplus assets, and a strategy to realise this potential by obtaining planning approval. British Rail Surplus Landholdings, UK:Brian undertook a large number of planning appraisals, obtained planning permission, and developed strategies for the disposal of surplus railway sites including Marylebone Station, London; Camden Goods Yard; Cheltenham Station; and the Jubilee Line extension in East London. Birmingham Airport, UK:Brian successfully assembled and led a team of consultants to win a tender to undertake a feasibility study to evaluate the potential for a major multi-modal public transport interchange to be developed at Birmingham Airport. The prospect of both the airport and the National Exhibition Centre realising expansion plans was subject to a planning condition requiring increased use of public transport. Brian was responsible for undertaking the study in conjunction with Ove Arup that demonstrated how an interchange could be developed including a bus station, railway station and new airport terminal. Metropolitan Perth TOD Committee:Brian was a member of the committee reviewing and advising government on transit oriented development opportunities on the metropolitan rail network. This committee evaluated the potential for TOD projects, and identified priorities to guide investment decisions by the Passenger Transport Authority, and targeted actions required in the planning process including Enquiry-by-Design workshops. Bassendean Town Centre:Brian advised the Town of Bassendean on a Town Centre Area Revitalisation Strategy that builds on the EBD in 2001/02 aiming to implement this TOD project on a strategic location on the Eastern Corridor. |
